Comic Michael Richards, 57, who played Cosmo Kramer on the hit series Seinfeld, appeared via satellite on Monday's "The Late Show," to apologize for the shocking incident at the Laugh Factory on Friday night.

Richards was close to tears during the apology reports TMZ. TMZ cameras caught pal Jerry Seinfeld leaving the Ed Sullivan Theatre after taping his Letterman appearance. He told TMZ, "It's all on the show tonight."

Seinfeld's reps confirmed to TMZ that "Michael appeared via satellite and apologized."

On Friday, Michael Richards stunned a comedy club audience, shouting racial epithets at people who heckled him during a stand-up routine.

Kyle Doss, an African-American who attended the show, told TMZ that he and some friends were playfully heckling Richards from the cheap seats when, suddenly, the comedian lost it.

“Fifty years ago we’d have you upside down with a f***ing fork up your ass.?

Richards continued, “You can talk, you can talk, you’re brave now motherf**ker. Throw his ass out. He’s a nigger! He’s a nigger! He’s a nigger! A nigger, look, there’s a nigger!?

The crowd is visibly and audibly confused and upset. Richards responds by saying, “They’re going to arrest me for calling a black man a nigger.?

One of the men who was the object of Richard’s tirade was outraged, shouting back “That’s un-f***ing called for, ain’t necessary.?

After the three-minute tirade, it appears the majority of the audience members got up and left in disgust.

Just hours after TMZ exposed "Kramer's" racially-charged diatribe, the actor's former "Seinfeld" co-stars are weighing in.

In a statement released by Jerry Seinfeld, the comedian said, "I am sick over this. I'm sure Michael is also sick over this horrible, horrible mistake. It is so extremely offensive. I feel terrible for all the people who have been hurt."

The above video of the incident was posted on TMZ, who first drew attention when it posted video of Mel Gibson's anti-Semitic outburst to police officers this summer.

The video from the comedy club shows some audience members chuckling while others gasped and one person could be heard saying "Oh my God."

Some people in the club begin walking out, as someone says: "It's not funny. That's why you're a reject, never had no shows, never had no movies. Seinfeld, that's it."

Comments

To be fair, as a fellow Comedian I'm viewing this story from Michael Richards point of view, several people yell at him 'You suck' 'You're not funny' etc. for half an hour and he got them back. The issue is should he have called them 'Nigger'. They would, had he cussed at them all night. In fact they did they called him 'Cracker' and 'White boy'
