American Idol winner Carrie Underwood won female vocalist of the year at the 40th Annual Country Music Association Awards in Nashville Monday night.

Accepting her award, she said, "Two years ago I was sitting at home watching these very awards and watching all these other people win and having the best night of their life, and this is the best year of my life," the Associated Press reports.

When Carrie Underwood was announced as the Country Female of the Year, singer Faith Hill screamed “What after throwing her hands up sending gossips wild.

The country music superstar says she was just joking when cameras showed her screaming "WHAT?"

"The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me," Hill said in a statement. "For this to become a focus of attention given the talent gathered is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving Female Vocalist of The Year."

Hill's manager, Gary Borman, echoed : "I've worked with Faith for many years now and the idea that she would ever insult or undermine another artist, let alone another human being's success is absolutely preposterous. Those who know her know that she's incapable of such actions," he said in a statement.

"She was being playful while the nominations were being read and playful after."

Backstage, Carrie Underwood , said she said was happy just to be nominated, let alone win two trophies. "I would have taken male vocalist if they had given it to me," she joked.

That prize went to Keith Urban for the second year in a row. Urban, who had to drop out of the awards show after checking into rehab last month, received a standing ovation when his name was announced reports People Magazine.

His prize was accepted by Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn, who read a letter from Urban in which in which he thanked his friends and family and wife Nicole Kidman. "To my wife, Nicole, I love you," Urban said the in the letter. "I'm looking forward to coming home and seeing you all soon."

Added Dunn: "We love you Keith - good luck, brother."

Dunn himself, along with partner Kix Brooks, cohosted the show and took home three awards for their song "Believe": single, song and video of the year,

Kenny Chesney took the night's top award, entertainer of the year, which he'd also won two years ago. The singer, said: "This year has in ways been the most emotionally satisfying year and also the most emotionally draining year of my life. There have been so many ups and downs, it's been like a huge emotional roller coaster ride."

=== WoW! how embarrassing... for Faith! She put her hands up, thinking they had called her name! Did she know she was being filmed? She looked pissed afterwards! Putting her head down. It looks like she's cussing under her breath.

Actually If you tivo it back to where they announce the nominees right after they say the 5 ladies names they cut to all 5 and as you see faith appear on scream you can see her mouth the words "I better F**cking win". I have watched it over and over and put it the slo mo and she really says this so that would make me believe that she isnt joking, she is actually pissed off that she didnt win. Im suprised nobody is talking about the part she mouthed before carrie was announced the winner. Regardless of what happened Im sure she is going to say it was just a joke.

haha to bad for Faith. It was pretty funny. Faith did look pissed. But who cares, they called out CARRY UNDERWOOD!!!!! Congratulations Carry. I LOVE YOU AND YOUR SONGS.

yeah right...she meant it....spoiled brat

"The idea that I would disrespect, yadda, yadda, yadda" If cracking a joke at the winner isn't disrespectful, then I don't know what is. Of course she's going to say it was a joke. Would anyone expect her to say otherwise?
