Brandon Routh will return as Superman

Superman will be returning again - and Brandon Routh will be reprising his role as the superhero. The 27-year-old actor revealed that he has signed on for a sequel to the 2006 summer blockbuster and that director Bryan Singer will be at the helms once more.

Routh, who was an unknown when he was hired for Superman Returns, told E! Online, "Well, they've publicized that Bryan had finished his deal, which was the lynchpin, I think, in the whole talk about a sequel, so everything looks to be heading that way. I'm certainly excited to do another one. I don't think we'll start for awhile since we have a 2009 release, but I'm excited about the potential."

There is no news yet on whether Brandon's co-stars, Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, will also be participating in the franchise's next film.
