Kirsten Dunst turned down a role in 'American Beauty' because she couldn't
bear the thought of kissing Kevin Spacey.
The 'Marie Antoinette' actress was originally tipped to play the teenager
lusted after by Spacey, but was so against the idea of sharing a steamy
scene with him she passed.
Dunst, 24, told Entertainment Weekly magazine: "I was only 15 then and I
didn't want to kiss Kevin Spacey or be seen lying naked in those rose
petals."
Mena Suvari later landed the role of teenage temptress Angela Hayes in the
1999 film which went on to win five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best
Actor for Spacey.
Dunst's big break came when she starred in 'Interview with the Vampire'
alongside Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.
The movie featured a scene in which an 11-year-old Kirsten had to kiss Brad
Pitt, who was 29.
Meanwhile, the actress says she understands why her new film 'Marie
Antoinette' was booed at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
She said: "I didn't take it to heart. How would Americans feel about the
French doing a movie about George Washington with French actors?"
In other news, Kirsten Dunst is considering taking a break from making movies.
"Right now I want to go to art school. It’s important to do other things," Dunst told eecho.ie. "I’m not the type of actress who likes to do movie after movie after movie. It doesn’t feel like you have much of a life. You’re just taking on a new identity in a way.
The actress would like to follow in the footsteps of her mother, who used to own her own art gallery.
