Anna Nicole Smith and her lawyer Howard K. Stern have taken the first step toward becoming man and wife on Thursday morning. The pair participated in commitment ceremony in a catamaran just off Nassau, Bahamas.
The couple issued a press release about their ceremony that read, Anna Nicole and Howard “boarded a boat to quietly sail the ocean around Nassau…on a clandestine sail to recapture simple pleasures - fresh salt air on the face, a sunrise on the ocean, and wind in their hair. And then a good thing happened: during the sail, Anna Nicole Smith and Howard K. Stern made a commitment before God to be there for one another, to be each other's strength during this difficult time. By mid-morning, helicopters flew overhead, speed boats approached, and camera-equipped scuba divers invaded what had been an otherwise perfect moment of peace, solitude, and hope. The event was intended to be totally private between two adults deeply in love with each other and needing simple reassurances that they could count on one another through life's ups and downs. The outing was never expected to be shared with anyone other than Howard, Anna, [her newborn daughter] Dannielynn Hope and a few close friends and family."
A source for Star magazine says, "There was heavy security around the yacht, plus extra speedboats to deliver more supplies as needed (including unlimited Dom Perignon champagne) from the mainland to the catamaran." The couple and their guests swam in the ocean after the ceremony took place. Star’s witness says, "Anna was wearing a pink bikini! Later on, she changed into a colorful, one-piece suit with a wrap around her waist."
Some suspect that Howard’s rush to marry Anna is an attempt to conceal the true father of her child. Such conspiracy theorists claim that Dannielynn’s real father is Anna Nicole’s ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead. A lawyer source for Perez Hilton says, “I am positive that the reason they got married is because under the family law in the Bahamas, if a person marries the mother AFTER birth of the child AND acknowledges he is the natural father (which Howard Stern did on the Larry King show) - he is presumed under their laws to be the father of the child….Larry Birkhead can only file a paternity proceeding if there is no one presumed to be the father."
Birkhead himself seems to be fond of the conspiracy and has taken to posting on his website his side of the story. Birkhead writes, "That’s not a grief-stricken mother. [Howard] wants to take over paternity and that’s his maneuver. Nothing shocks me now. It gets crazier and crazier.?
