It says a lot about your awards show when the best and most appropriately dressed gal there is only 10 years old. Unfortunately the fashion at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards was about as interesting as watching paint dry. A lack of color and a lack of creativity made the red carpet arrivals to the show just as boring as the witless show itself.
Everyone's stylists must have taken the night off as practically every woman at the VMAs wore a white dress. Perhaps the stars were all trying to fit in the summer's hot color one last time before Labor Day. Still you would have thought buzz around the wardrobe grapevine would have kept the ladies from looking like carbon copies of one another. Devotees to the colorless look included Fergie, Rihanna, Beyonce, Kelis, Maria Menounos, Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton. Most of their outfits were more sour milk than sweet cream. And it wasn't just the women wearing white. John Legend also opted for an all-white look while Ludacris and Damien Fahey rocked white blazers.

Those who didn't wear white picked colors that were just as dull: black or buff. Jessica Simpson tried for the vava-voom factor in a tight black tank dress. She ended up looking more streetwalker than star-studded. Pink actually looked decent, wearing a ruffled black top with wide-leg black slacks. Amy Lee of Evanescence wore a basically shapeless kimono style dress and Shakira, whose make up and hair were flawless, mis-stepped in a too long gown that combined flamenco and flapper. Meanwhile the beige fans: Petra Nemcova, Cassie, and Whitney Port from "The Hills" blended into the background.

My choice for best-dressed may seem strange, but I have to give it to Abigail Breslin of Little Miss Sunshine. The ten-year-old knew enough to keep her outfit hip, young and rock and roll. After all, it's the VMAs not the Oscars. Breslin wore a flowy, boho polka dot top, slim jeans and boots. She looked fresh and fun. Second place goes to Christina Aguilera, who missed first due to her spray tan that was a tad too orange. Aguilera looked so gorgeous in her gold and red gowns that evening that I'm willing to forget the fact that she was a tad overdressed.
Honorable mentions go to Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag from "The Hills" for actually daring to wear color, jade and coral respectively. Nicole Richie looked great as well, even though she skipped the red carpet and did wear white. Ms. Richie gets bonus points for behaving so well after being stuck with presenting Pink with an award for a song ("Stupid Girls") that essentially tore her a new one.
Worst dressed is a three-way tie between Paris and Nicky Hilton and Jennifer Lopez. Paris, who had her hair fashioned in to a cruller-shaped object on the top of her head, looked like she swiped her white poufy-skirted dress from Bjork's closet. She wore black leather ankle boots, a black belt with a rosette on the front and some sort of black wristlets. Sister Nicky, on the other hand, wore a deep V, flower print, long sleeved mini-dress with a jewel-encrusted butterfly below her chest. If it sounds like a mess, that's because it was. Her hair was also looking especially icky. J. Lo wore long (puffy) sleeves as well and picked a silver dress straight out of the seventies with a matching turban that was straight out of Sunset Boulevard. She also sported thigh-high stiletto boots. It was one time where Marc Anthony actually looked like the hot one.

Luv your post! Christina Aguilera looked pretty good.
JLo just doesn't care anymore. She knew she would be mocked.
The 10 year old was hotter than almost everyone else!
