Lawyers reach a deal in Mel Gibson case

Mel Gibson’s lawyer and his prosecutor have reached a plea bargain agreed upon by Malibu judge Lawrence Mira. In the plea, Gibson will serve no jail time, but will be on probation for three years. He will also pay $1200 in fines and penalties and $100 in restitution.

Mel’s driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days. He will participate in a public service announcement warning of the consequences of drunk driving. Gibson will enter a rehabilitation program and attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for one year. For 4.5 months, Mel must attend the meetings five times a week. Thereafter he will attend three meetings a week.

Gibson, who was not present at the courthouse, pleaded no contest to driving with a .08 blood alcohol level or higher.
