MTV announces VMA nominees

If Shakira’s hips told her she was going to lead the pack in MTV Video Music Awards nominations this year, they wouldn’t have lied. She scored 7 for her video with Wyclef Jean, "Hips Don't Lie." The Red Hot Chili Peppers also managed 7 nods for “Dani California.? In addition to Christina Aguilera’s "Ain't No Other Man", Madonna’s "Hung Up" and Panic! At The Disco’s "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," their videos will vie for Video of the Year.

Madonna also did well in terms of nominations this year. The Material Girl wound up with four nods, as did Christina Aguilera. And while Nick Lachey may have had a difficult year dealing with his divorce from Jessica Simpson, perhaps his nomination for Best Male Video for “What’s Left of Me? (which stars new girlfriend, MTV VJ, Vanessa Minnillo) will cheer him up.

The awards will be handed out live at Radio City Music Hall on August 31 at 8 pm. The Killers, Beyonce Knowles, Panic! At The Disco, Justin Timberlake, and T.I. and Ludacris are scheduled to perform. The show’s soundtrack will be made up of songs from the Raconteurs.

The full list of nominees can be found at MTV.com.
