Jessica Simpson's dad spies on Nick

Jessica Simpson’s father Joe just can’t keep his nose out of his daughter’s business. According to sources for the New York Daily News, the former preacher was keeping a close eye on his former son-in-law over the last few months. Joe was said to have been quite interested in Nick Lachey’s interactions with other women during the period between his separation and divorce from Jessica.

A few months back, Nick caused a lot of stir when he visited a nightclub his current girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo and Jessica’s former assistant CaCee Cobb. Several photographs were published of Nick and CaCee looking as though they were more than just friends. And while Nick and Vanessa weren’t caught on camera, they were said to have cozied up that night as well.

Apparently the gossip-loving public weren’t the only ones interested in Nick’s whereabouts that night. A source for NYDN claims Mr. Simpson was also looking for the scoop on the evening. The insider says, "Joe called the club people after hearing Nick was there and demanded to see the security videotape. Joe was looking to incriminate Nick. He told the club, 'If you ever want to see my daughter there, you'll give me what I want.'"

Of course, Simpson’s rep denies the story, but it’s certainly an interesting tale. Could Papa Simpson have been checking to see if Nick was behaving well enough without Jessica to warrant a reconciliation between them? I guess we’ll never know.
