Mel Gibson apologizes for "despicable" behavior

The biggest story of the weekend was probably Mel Gibson’s arrest for DUI early on the morning of July 28. If you’ve been living under a rock the last few days, here’s a basic run-down of the incident.

When he was pulled over, Gibson was in his 2006 Lexus on the Pacific Coast Highway at driving 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s department confirmed that Gibson’s blood alcohol level was 0.12 - the state’s legal limit is 0.08. According to the police report obtained by TMZ.com, that’s when Mel went crazy.

The actor reportedly said numerous time to the deputy handling his arrest, "My life is f--ked." The deputy wrote in his report that Gibson also said, "he 'owns Malibu' and will spend all of his money to 'get even' with me." Mel displayed more outrageous behavior by calling a female deputy “sugar tits? and by threatening to urinate in his cell. But by far the most startling things that Gibson said during his arrest were his anti-Semitic comments. He allegedly said that "f--king Jews…are responsible for all the wars in the world" and asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?"

Mel has since apologized for his behavior, stating “I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested and said things I do not believe to be true and which are despicable…I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse."
