Katie Cassidy has beaten off stiff competition from Jessica Simpson and Kristin Cavallari to land a role in 'Dallas'.
The 'Click' actress was handed the part of Lucy Ewing because film bosses were concerned the other two candidates would act like divas on set and upset the rest of the cast, which includes Jennifer Lopez and John Travolta.
A source told America's Us Weekly magazine: "Producers wanted to steer clear of the drama and also thought Katie was simply better for the role."
As well as losing out to Katie, 19, 'Laguna Beach' star Kristin and Jessica share a common interest in men.
Kristin dated the blonde star's estranged husband Nick Lachey earlier this year, and also landed the role of Daisy Duke, the character previously played by Jessica, in the prequel to 'The Dukes of Hazzard' movie.
Director Bill Gerbel said: "I like Kristin's innocence and her beauty. I'm planning a whole new cast for the film and I think Jessica will be too old for a prequel."

Bummer, I was really rooting for Jessica to get the role. She's beautiful, and I could completely see her as Lucy. I think they made a grave error-

Boy am I OLD. I remember watching her dad (David Cassidy) on "The Patridge Family". And not in reruns either. : )
