Katie Holmes may just be a good influence on Tom Cruise after all. The actress has convinced her fiancé to make amends with Brooke Shields after their very public spat last year.

In 2005, Cruise attacked Shields for her decision to use antidepressants to deal with post-partum depression after her first pregnancy. But on April 18, 2006, Cruise and Shields shared a moment that brought them together. That day Shields gave birth to her daughter Grier and Katie Holmes gave birth to Suri Cruise.

Since giving birth, Holmes has reportedly experienced some baby blues herself. Her empathy for Shields convinced her to ask Tom to smooth things over with Brooke. A source told Star magazine, “Tom is ready to bury the hatchet. Katie and Brooke gave birth on the same day, and that bond really touched Tom. Katie explained to Tom what a difficult transition it is going from pregnancy to motherhood. She told Tom that he should reconsider what he said about Brooke."

Shields’s rep said, "Tom and Katie sent congratulatory flowers to Brooke Shields on the birth of her baby."
