Nicole Kidman had no idea ex-husband, Tom Cruise, wanted a divorce.
The 'Cold Mountain' star says she was surprised when he filed papers in
2001.
She confessed to America's Ladies' Home Journal magazine: "That was a major
shock.
"I always knew the rug was going to be taken out from underneath me at some
stage. I didn't think it was going to happen in the way it happened.
"I knew I was going to get hit with something. But I think a divorce, and
the demise of what your family is, is a little death in itself."
Meanwhile, Kidman was allegedly devastated when she found out that Cruise
was expecting a baby with new fiancée, Katie Holmes.

The flame-haired actress - who has two adopted children from her marriage to
the 'Mission: Impossible III' star - reportedly told friends she only found
out her ex was expecting his first biological child, who came into the world
last month, through the news - despite being in regular contact with Tom.
A source revealed: "This baby means Katie Holmes will be in Tom's life
forever Nicole always cherished the special bond adopting gave her and Tom,
now he will share that bond with Katie"
