Proof of the hip-hop group D12 Killed |

Rapper Proof of the hip-hop group D12 was shot and killed this morning at an illegal afterhours club, police said.
Proof, whose real name was Deshaun Holton, was shot at a club on Eight Mile Road, made famous in Eminem's autobiographical film 8 Mile.
He was a longtime friend of Eminem and had acted as his best man at his wedding in January.
A posting on D12's Web site, D12 Online, says, "Memorial service arrangements are still being made, and (Proof's) family and friends would appreciate privacy during this difficult time. Arrangements for fan remembrances are being planned, the details will be posted on Proof’s official site, IronFistRecords.com."
Police said that two people had been shot in the head, one fatally, after an argument broke out at the CCC nightclub.
Proof, was dead on arrival at Conner Creek Medical Center in Detroit, according to a spokeswoman for St. John Health System.
He was 32.
Proof was among the most pivotal players on the Detroit hip-hop scene. He befriended Eminem long before he was a houshold name, and was a nearly constant presence as the rapper rose to superstardom. He toured with Eminem as his on-stage hype man, was a member of his group D12, had a bit role in the "8 Mile" movie and served as the best man at his wedding in January.
An unidentified 35-year-old man, who was shot along with Proof, is in critical condition at Detroit's St. John Hospital.
Police were called to the shootings around 5 a.m, following reports of a fight and shots fired.
The club where it occurred is called 3C, and it's at 8 Mile near Hayes. The club isn't illegal but it was operating illegally after hours.
The shooting is the second in three months to involve a member of Eminem's inner circle reports MTVnews. Em protégé Obie Trice was shot and wounded New Year's Eve while riding with his girlfriend along a Detroit freeway; police have yet to make an arrest in connection with that incident, which remains under investigation. One of D12's original members, Bugz (real name: Kornail Pitts) was shot and killed on May 21, 1999, during a picnic at Detroit's Belle Isle Park.
According to the Detroit Free Press, several Detroit hip-hop DJs, radio personalities, rappers and producers, as well as Eminem and Obie Trice, planned to meet with Proof's family at the hospital on Tuesday morning (April 11). D12 was set to begin work on its third album this month.

First of all my deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Proof. Death is a dark hour to go through.I know.However, being from Inkster, MI right outside Detroit and living over half my life on the east side of Detroit, I know that this is the type of shit that's been plaguing our community since my childhood. R.I.P Proof. Im really sorry that this happened, and Im very thankful that only one of the two people that got shot died. Im sorry that the person that died was Proof. He was a very good actor and rapper, and Im sorry that his life had to end that way.

i send my deepest condolences 2 all the people who were close 2 Proof..his family, friends, the Shady family etc..... I kno his death has left a scar on their souls...Don't worry, his life just begun.. He's is smilin down 2 us. Well I had the honor to get to know proof a little, and he embraced me shortly after meeting me.. I can recall one time on Super bowl sunday he took me and some others from his record label (iron fist) to a concert with G unit's tony yayo and obie and some other artist the tickets were 400 hundred dollars a person an he was trying to get us in and when we were unable to get in he told us he wasnt going to stay, he did his 15 minute set and left with us thats the kind of proof I knew. well proof R.I.P you'll be missed
