Gwyneth to name baby Mortimer!

Gwyneth Paltrow raised the bar for strange baby names when nearly two years ago she and her husband, Chris Martin of Coldplay bequeathed their daughter with the moniker Apple. Up until that point, it was typically less famous actresses - like Rachel Griffiths, who named her child Banjo or Shannyn Sossamon, who named her child Audio Science - and out there musicians - like Frank Zappa - who had the monopoly on exotic names. Gwyneth made the practice an A-list phenomenon.

Now Gwynnie’s at it again. According to Page Six, she’s preparing for the birth of a son and according to rossmatthews.net - who recently interviewed Paltrow - Gwyneth plans on naming her son Mortimer. Page Six speculates that the name derives from her nickname for her godfather, Steven Spielberg. Gwyneth calls the lauded director "Uncle Morty." And here we thought Mortimer was an homage to Mickey Mouse’s rival.
