Gwyneth loves Guinness |

It’s so hard to keep track of all the things pregnant women should and shouldn’t do to keep their babies healthy. But an A-list actress like Gwyneth Paltrow could afford to hire her own baby health specialist to keep track of all the constantly changing recommendations if she wanted to. And Gwyneth just might have done so as she’s become one of the first celebrities to try a new recommendation: Guinness beer.
Paltrow and her husband, Chris Martin of Coldplay dined at sushi joint, Cube 63 in New York on Tuesday night. According to the New York Daily News, it looked as though Gwyneth was eating sushi - a no no for pregnant women. Then Martin purchased some Guinness and Paltrow drank one, further astounding the other patrons of the restaurant. "People were looking and waving, and she just tried to melt further into the corner," said a fellow diner.
Though Gwyneth’s rep assured NYDN that she did not eat any sushi that night, it was confirmed that the actress drank Guinness. Says the paper, “Some experts recommend a little Guinness for expecting mothers, because of the brew's high iron content.? That Gwyneth - always ahead of the trends.
Update /// Guinness Fact
What about the old wives tale about nursing mothers drinking Guinness?
Current medical research suggests that pregnant women and nursing mothers
should totally abstain from any form of alcoholic beverage. In pregnancy, it can
lead to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, characterized by slow development. Alcohol does
pass in the mother's milk, so nursing mother's should avoid Guinness and any
other form of alcohol. I have received numerous comments from readers that I am
being overly cautious and that Guinness is still given to nursing mothers in
Ireland and brown ale to mothers in Belgium

Gwyneth is by all appearances a devoted mother. She is pregnant, not a prisoner. Keep your "pregnant woman shoulds and shouldn'ts" to yourself!

The danger of drinking alcohol during pregnancy is not an old wives tale, it is a proven fact. Even one glass of alcohol can increase your child's chances of being brain damaged. And since Gwyneth certainly appears to be a devoted mother, I was somewhat shocked to hear that she would do that. If she wanted high iron content all she had to do was take iron pills, she doesn't have to endager her child for that.

"Current medical research suggests that pregnant women and nursing mothers should totally abstain from any form of alcoholic beverage." Umm, I don't think those that do lactation research suggest such extreme prohibition of alcohol. An incredibly minute amount of alcohol is passed into the milk. The research may say alcohol gets passed into the milk. That's not the same as saying you shouldn't ever drink while nursing. I think a common recommendation from breastfeeding experts is no more than a few drinks a week. And some of them do recommend dark ale for increasing milk supply...

Oh, please!! If that is not a lot of rubbish, then I do not know what it is... I was at Cube 63 that same Tuesday night, and patrons did not give a second thought to the couple in the dark corner, but to a extremely annoying group of rowdy young women, who were a little bit on the tipsy side and VERY noisy. So, please, do not broadcast rubbish about people you do not actually know. Reading about celebrities in meaningless magazines does not give you the right to meddle in their lives.
Just let them be, as they let you be.

My doctor told me it was ok to even have a glass of wine to calm my nerves toward the final weeks of my pregnancy. One glass.. One beer.. if not in the early stages (first trimester, or early second) is "fine" according to my doctor. For goodness sake, mind your own business people and let the girl be. I am certainly not talking about making a weekly or daily habit of it.. but a little bit is okay. I don't even know what stage of her pregnancy she is in, but if she is beyond her first trimester or early second? I wouldn't worry.
