U2 sweeps the Grammys
U2 may have finally found what they were looking for - if they were looking to sweep the Grammys last night, that is. The Irish pop rock quartet took home five of the night’s biggest awards, including album of the year and song of the year (for “Sometimes You Can’t Make it On Your Own?). The band won awards in every category in which they were nominated. "If you think this is going to go to our head, it's too late…You can't ask me to be humble at a moment like this," Bono said. Many expected Mariah Carey, the comeback queen and 2005’s best selling pop star, to be the night’s big winner. She stood a chance to take home the most Grammys ever in one year by a woman. Unfortunately for the crooner, she walked away with only three awards - none of which were in the major categories. Her biggest win was for best contemporary R&B album - an award that was presented off-air. Another of Grammys’ big winners was John Legend, who won three awards: best new artist, best R&B album and best male R&B vocal for "Ordinary People." Kanye West also walked away with three awards, including best rap album. Some surprise winners were Kelly Clarkson and Green Day. Clarkson, the first “American Idol,? beat our Mariah to win best female pop vocal performance for "Since U Been Gone." She also won for best pop album. Green Day, meanwhile, won the award for record of the year for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams.? For a full list of the winners, click here. |
