Sheryl Crow and cyclist Lance Armstrong split

Singer Sheryl Crow and cyclist Lance Armstrong have said they are separating, five months after announcing their engagement, BBC reports
The seven-time Tour de France champion has three children from a previous marriage. It would have been Crow's first marriage reports CNN

"After much thought and consideration we have made a very tough decision to split up," the statement said.

"We both have a deep love and respect for each other and we ask that everyone respect our privacy during this very difficult time."

Armstrong, 34, and Crow, 43, have been together for more than two years.

Crow met Armstrong, a testicular cancer survivor at a charity event in October 2003.

Crow called Armstrong the inspiration for her last album, "Wildflower," which was released in September.

In an interview with The Associated Press in November, Crow talked about being part of a , saying she was not crazy about all the attention that goes with it.

She said celebrity magazines are more interested in seeing a couple break up than reporting on them being happy together.

The couple shared a home in Austin, where they had planned to wed. Crow recently modeled wedding gowns in a photo shoot for Allure magazine reports Washington Post
