A bodyguard for rapper Busta Rhymes was shot dead outside a New York warehouse where the star was filming a music video early on Sunday reports Reuters
Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes and G-Unit members including Lloyd Banks were
scheduled to be filming on a ninth-floor soundstage in Brooklyn on Sunday
(05.02.06) when trouble started.
Police Sergeant Kevin Farrell said the bodyguard, 29-year-old Israel
Ramirez - a longer time member of the rapper's entourage - was killed with a
single shot to the chest.
Some time before the shooting, police sources said, there had been an argument over noise in the studio and producers had asked several people to leave.
Shortly after midnight, several shots were fired outside the studio, killing Israel Ramirez. The father of three from Brooklyn. Nobody else was hurt in the shooting which sent dozens of people fleeing from the scene before police arrived.
It was unclear how many of the celebrities and crew were outside the building when the shots were fired reports AP
Investigators were still trying to determine early Monday what led to the violence, Farrell said. Shortly before the shooting, a man connected to 50 Cent's G-Unit rap group reportedly had an outburst at the studio.
A crew member told The New York Times that the row began when the men
ignored repeated requests to keep quiet.
He said: "Words were exchanged, and they were not happy words,"
More than 500 people were gathered for the Busta Rhymes video, and it was
unclear how many were outside when shots were fired.
Police found a handgun near the scene and at least eight spent shells. They were examining film from the video shoot as well as security camera footage to see if the homicide was caught on camera.
