Britney Spears is making headlines again. This time Ms. Spears’s parenting skills are in question after she was photographed yesterday driving in the Los Angeles area with her son, Sean Preston in her lap. California law states that children "must be secured in an appropriate child-passenger restraint until they are at least 6 years old or weigh at least 60 pounds."
The photographer who took the pictures of Britney’s lapse in judgment told the New York Post, "I noticed she had the baby in her lap. Next thing I know, she was driving south on the PCH…I'm not sure if she was wearing a seat belt…I was surprised. She looked very relaxed - like it was a normal thing to do."
A Spears insider told People magazine that the pop star initially drove with her bodyguard in the passenger seat and Sean in a car seat. When her bodyguard went into a Starbucks to buy some drinks, Britney brought Sean into the driver seat with her and began to play with him. As the paparazzi became more invasive, Britney decided it was time to go and drove off after her bodyguard climbed in the backseat. Sean was still in her lap.
Britney made a statement to People about the incident. "Today I had a horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi while I was with my baby, she said. “Because of a recent incident when I was trapped in my car without my baby by a throng of paparazzi, I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us, and took photos of us which were sold to the media. I love my child and would do anything to protect him."
