Britney Spears: The Backlash Booms! |

Britney Spears's image needs serious boosting after an incident on February 6 when Britney was photographed driving with son Preston in her lap. The pop diva broke California law, which states that children "must be secured in an appropriate child-passenger restraint until they are at least 6 years old or weigh at least 60 pounds."
The photographer who took the pictures of Britney’s lapse in judgment told the New York Post, "I noticed she had the baby in her lap. Next thing I know, she was driving south on the PCH…I'm not sure if she was wearing a seat belt…I was surprised. She looked very relaxed - like it was a normal thing to do."

Britney blamed the paparazzi saying she had to get away fast and was going to stop to put her baby in his car seat after she was out of sight. However her story is unlikely since the particular photographer involved has known Britney for years and he kept a distance when shooting her in the car reports Star Magazine. Britney has not received comfort from her mother or her husband regarding the incident. Her relationship with husband Kevin Federline appeared to be on the rocks the evening of the incident at a pre-Grammy party, where they were seen arguing and Britney was seen elbowing Kevin, which led her to leave the scene while Kevin stayed and drank bottles of vodka with friends. Britney's PR team is now said to be quietly accepting interviews from newswomen like Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters in an attempt to repair her damaged public image.
