The Oscar nominations were announced today at 5:30 am Pacific time and, as expected, Brokeback Mountain led the crew with eight nominations. Ang Lee got a nod for Best Director, Heath Ledger was nominated for Best Actor and the film was nominated as Best Picture - the clear frontrunner in the race, which also includes Capote, Crash, Good Night, and Good Luck and Munich. Heath’s soon to be bride, Michelle Williams, was recognized for her work in the film by being selected as a Best Supporting Actress nominee and Jake Gyllenhaal was picked as a Best Supporting Actor contender.
It’s been a busy ten days for the Jolie-Pitt clan. Brad and his soon-to-be-adopted son, Maddox flew to London from LA, followed a few days later by Angelina and daughter, Zahara. The family then flew to Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum, where they met with world leaders and other celebrity activists like Bono. On Saturday, it was back to London.
The trip was mainly business, but some of the business was personal. According to Britain’s Sunday Mirror, Brad found his best man while overseas. People may have suspected that Pitt would choose pal George Clooney for the coveted role, as it’s been rumored time and time again that his wedding to Jolie would take place at Clooney’s Lake Como, Italy home. However, the man of honor was Guy Ritchie, Pitt’s director in the film Snatch, who is often better known as Mr. Madonna.
Just My Luck Star Lindsay Lohan was taken to a London hospital after cutting her shin in an accident at singer Bryan Adams' mansion reports New York Daily News.
NYDN was really vague on the Bryan Adams thing, I am assuming it is this Bryan Adams.
That said, what on earth is Lindsay doing at his house.
"Lindsay was going up the stairs, carrying a ceramic teacup," Dina Lohan told Star Magazine. "She had just come out of the shower, so she was still wet and had some lotion on, and she completely flipped on the stairs. ... The teacup went flying, it was shattered and one of the pieces cut Lindsay on her shin."
The actress/singer needed 10 stitches Friday to close the gash on her leg.
Lohan, 19, also was hospitalized in Miami this month after suffering an asthma attack.
Two films examining immigrant life in America, the Hispanic teen drama, "Quinceanera," and the Sudanese refugee documentary, "God Grew Tired of Us," won top honors Saturday at the Sundance Film Festival reports AP.
"Quinceanera," and "God Grew Tired of Us," won the best drama and documentary awards, respectively, from both Sundance juries and audiences, marking the first time that has ever occurred.
"It's never happened before," festival director Geoffrey Gilmore said. "It's happend in one category, but never in both. Certainly, it says something about the nature of the films. Films with popular votes tend to work on an emotional level. Films that are given awards by juries tend to work on a critical and aesthetic level. The fact that it's both is to the films' credit."
