Simple Life star Nicole Richie and her fiancé, "DJ AM" Adam Goldstein, have broken off their engagement.
"They've called off their engagement," Nicole's publicist, Cindy Guagenti, told Star. "It's very sad."
Despite the official statement stating that the breakup was a mutual decision, PerezHilton.com hears that that's just spin.
"Adam dumped Nicole."
"Adam was fed up with Nicole," said one source. "Her issues with her weight, I'm reluctant to say 'anorexia', caused her behavior to be very erratic and moody lately."
Another source said that Adam discovered some troubling news about his girlfriend.
"A.M. has a residency in Vegas, where he goes to spin every weekend," said the other source. "And, when the cat's away, the mouse will play. Adam found out that Nicole was 'partying' when he was away, and he does not tolerate that."
Richie, the 24-year-old daughter of Lionel Richie, and Goldstein, 32, announced their engagement in February after dating for a year reports People Magazine
News of Nicole and DJ's broken engagement comes on the heels of Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson's separation.
On Dec. 3, five days before the stunning announcement, Nicole signed 600 copies of her new novel, The Truth About Diamonds, at L.A.'s Kitson boutique. DJ was not with her.
