Although I am a staunch believer in Freedom of Speech. ...I agree that the .xxx domain name should be permanantly shelved and never allowed to go forward.
Giving the .xxx domain legitimacy helps to refinforce and legitimize the Pornography industry which, despite whatever your personal position on the subject may be, Pornography is is harmful to Society as a whole.
With the goal of creating a better world, both the consumers and the producer of Pornography could be using their resources and valuable time towards making this planet free of sexual slavery, abuse of children, and the involvement of the criminal element that helps promote the pornography industry.
Consumption of Pornography is a mental illness which drives away human interaction and de-sensitizes the human experience to to love and itinmacy.
Production of Pornography is a protected act of speech that is abused by thousands of Pornography producers who prey upon the weak and the the poor and the needy and the unsuspecting to engage in an industry that while is generally legitmate according to our Constitution is a hurtful and desparate industry with no other purpose than using their Consitiutional freedoms for the purposes of exploitation and greed.
My personal opinion is that the Internet was not developed as a distribution channel for Pornography and further legitimization of it is the same as giving tacit approval to the vast network of individuals who coerce women and other people to engage in Pornography .
That's my 2 cents.

Giving legitimacy helps legitimize? This sort of circular reasoning and illogic typifies those who fear liberty.
"Consumption of Pornography is a mental illness which drives away human interaction and de-sensitizes the human experience to to love and itinmacy."
Unfounded drivel.
"...an industry that while is generally legitmate according to our Constitution is a hurtful and desparate industry with no other purpose than using their Consitiutional freedoms for the purposes of exploitation and greed."
Last I could tell, the porn industry held no guns to the heads, or otherwise forced consumption of their products.
K.B. has fear of free market, as well as fear of liberty.

Legitimize,
In case you guys haven't noticed. It is ligit. There are more porn sites on the .com than any other and they are making more money than any other site bar amazon and ebay. I think the xxx is a great idea and I think they should force sex sites onto that domain. It was be VERY easy to block for kids and make the internet safer. Making sex sites go to the xxx has nothing to do with free speech either, if these sites do not want to go to xxx than it tells you they want to market to kids rely on popups and tricks to lure kids into their sites

Maybe so, however that can also describe Capitalism as practiced in the U. S.; not to mention religion and political expression.
Our society is sex centered yet most have no outlet. Porn is the symptom not the cause.
