Carrie’s Main Squeeze

Matthew Broderick

“The Producers? star Matthew Broderick was born with a silver microphone in his mouth; his parents were both drama professionals. At various times linked romantically with Jennifer Grey, Helen Hunt, Lili Taylor, Penelope Ann Miller and Daisy Foote, he settled down with a woman who has played one of the swinginest gals on the block, Sarah Jessica Park Avenue. Together, they have the proverbial bouncing baby boy, James Wilke Broderick.

In 1986, Matthew became fodder for wagging tongues just as the hilarious film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off? was launching him into the stratosphere above celebrity land. On vacation in Ireland with Jennifer Grey, his car smashed into another, killing a mother and her daughter. Matthew’s leg was broken; no word on whether “Unsafe at any Speed? author Ralph Nader said: “I told you so.?

When Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick were both up for a Best Actor Tony for “The Producers,? Lane went home with the goods. Yet you needn’t pull out your hankies for Broderick: he’s won Tony Awards for his parts in “Brighton Beach Memoires? and “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.? He once told Premiere magazine apropos of his role as a homo in “Torch Song Trilogy:? “It was fun being romantic, sexy with a man.? Why he wasn’t cast for “Brokeback Mountain,? we’ll never know.
