Video : Kanye West Slams George Bush

NBC has apologized for Rapper Kanye West's comments during NBC's Friday night airing of "A Concert for Hurricane Relief." "Kanye West departed from the scripted comments that were prepared for him, and his opinions in no way represent the views of the networks."

"It would be most unfortunate, if the efforts of the artists who participated tonight and the generosity of millions of Americans who are helping those in need are overshadowed by one person's opinion."

A Concert for Hurricane Relief, which aired on NBC and other networks Friday night, began with jazz from New Orleans natives Harry Connick Jr. and Wynton Marsalis.

Host Matt Lauer invited viewers to contribute to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund by phone or on the web.

Appearing two-thirds of the way through the program Mike Myers reads from teleprompter. When it is Kanye's turn, he says the following:

"George Bush doesn't care about black people."

Camera quickly cuts to Chris Tucker.

Kanye West also criticized the news media, saying "I hate the way they portray us in the media. If you see a black family, it says they're looting. See a white family, it says they're looking for food."

West said the government is intentionally dragging its feet, and that "they've given them permission to go down and shoot us."

Kanye West Late Registration CD was released on August 30. The album is expected to sell 800, 000 units for its first week.
