American Idol broadcaster Fox has found no evidence that judge Paula Abdul had an affair with or improperly assisted contestant Corey Clark. Clark a contestant who was dropped from the show in 2003 after producers learned about a past arrest alleged he had a sexual relationship with Abdul while still part of the program. Corey Clark, 25, also alleged that Abdul trained him while the pair were conducting the secret affair.
A Fox investigation concluded that Abdul had not given him any special help with his songs or performance. The 3-1/2-month inquiry handled by former federal prosecutor Marcell McRae and attorney Ivy Kagan Bierman consisted of interviews with 43 people and a review of material provided by Abdul and Clark.
Abdul, who denied having a relationship with Mr Clark, said she was "grateful this ordeal is over".
"An enhanced non-fraternization policy" will be in place when Abdul and her fellow judges return next season, however, to prevent future incidents that could call into question the relationships between judges, contestants and others connected with the show, Fox officials said.
"I'm grateful this ordeal is over, and I'm so looking forward to getting back to the job I love," Abdul said in a statement issued after Friday's announcement by Fox. "Once again, I thank my fans from throughout the world for their undying love and support."
