Destiny's Clothes Horses
In his New York Times review of the concert given by Destiny's Child in Madison Square Garden on Friday, Jon Pareles says: "The secret hidden by studio production is that Beyonce can't keep up with the complex rhythms: onstage, she kept falling behind." Elsewhere, he said that the concert was as much a sultry stroll down a fashion catwalk as a musical event. "Somehow, no matter where she stood, Beyonce had her hair blown back by a fan, like a model in a magazine-cover shoot." Given that the group has vowed to break up after this tour, we can assume that Mr. Pareles doesn't care about Destiny's Child being aborted. But it's hard to imagine that fans won't go wild hearing such hits as "Say My Name" and "Bills, Bills, Bills" performed live, whether Beyonce can keep up with the rhythms or not. (By Scott Rose) |
