Celebrity Hero Appears In Texas
Camp Casey, the anti-war center in Crawford, Texas, named for the murdered son of Cindy Sheehan, has not received any visits from those directly responsible for starting a war in Iraq. Viggo Mortensen, however, he of "The Lord of the Rings" fame, drove up the dusty road to the camp, unannounced, this past Thursday to lend Mrs. Sheehan moral support. President Bush did speed past the camp in a motorcade on Friday, which doubtless is good of him. Some Crawford residents who support the president unquestioningly have taken up intimidation tactics against the anti-war protesters at Camp Casey; they have driven pick-ups through mud puddles, revved ther engines and careened close to the vigil. The Bosh asks; does it tell us anything about the kind of person who supports Bush that they would behave that way towards parents grieving the loss of their children in the war, and if so, what? Kudos to Viggo, a true celebrity hero. (By Scott Rose) |
