Yerba Buena Rocks With "Island Life"
|
Yerba Buena has come out with a second album, "Island Life," which has everybody shimmying their hips and singing along. The band is headed by Venezuelan native Andres Levin, but the Island in the album title is Manhattan. Some of the songs are in English while others are in fluent Spanglish. "Bilingual Girl," for instance, features the lyric "Two tongues are better than one." The overall vision of New York City presented in this album is of an international playland where people meet freely and are always ready to shake their booties. Musically, the album evinces an amalgam of pop, reggae, flamenco, samba, merengue and a few other south-of-the-border specialties. The disc also features many guest appearances, among which is that of John Leguizamo who, in the song "Sugar Daddy" boasts of having a platinum Metrocard. (By Scott Rose) |
