« Nicole Richie writes novel | Main | Demi was demanding on Versace shoot » July 14, 2005 Usher opens summer camp Music Usher opens summer camp Usher has been spending a lot of time lately in the south of France with his British girlfriend Eishia Brightwell, but he hasn't been so "caught up" that he's forgotten about where he came from. The 26-year-old singer has decided to give back to the community by opening a camp in his hometown of Atlanta for aspiring performers and athletes. The camp, which is open to minorities between the ages of 8 and 18, is called Camp New Look and it is hosted on the campus of Clark Atlanta University. Campers learn to hone their talent and also how to market it. Usher made an appearance on the camp's opening night Monday, where he said to the campers, "This is truly about learning the business side. You're not going to learn it all overnight, but maybe, just maybe, you'll learn enough to change your life." The camp experience culminates in a charity basketball game and half-time show where the campers will show off the skills.
