Ed McBain Goes To Great Precinct House In The Sky
|
Writer Ed McBain, famed for his fifty 87th Precinct House "Police Procedural" novels, has died at 78 from cancer of the larynx. Born Salvatore Lombino in NYC, he later changed his name to Evan Hunter. He enjoyed great public literary success with his novel "The Blackboard Jungle," based on his experiences as a school teacher. A film version of that story was made with Glenn Ford and Sidney Poitier. Mr. Hunter was also behind the script for Hitchcock's 1963 classic "The Birds." He separated his more literary side from his "Police Procedural" side by writing under two different names, though he felt the separate talents converging as he matured and in 2001, as per Mr. Hunter-McBain's explanation, they wrote "Candyland" together. The Bosh expresses its sympathies to certain writers for the fucked-up mind games they find it necessary to play with themselves. (By Scott Rose) |
