In today's New York Times, Charles Mcgrath has a lengthy essay on the role class distinctions have played in American culture over time.
His conclusion, after talking about all the Edith Whartons and the Henry Jameses, is that celebrities have inherited much of the glamour and sexiness that used to attach itself to the aristocracy. McGrath says: "If Gatsby were to come back today, he would come back as Donald Trump and would want a date not with Daisy but with Britney."
Charles; don't you know that Trump just married Melania, and that Britney is pregnant? Wouldn't you say it was a faux pas to suggest that Trump would want a date with Britney, given the foregoing? Were you to read The Bosh with any regularity, you would know these things. (By Scott Rose)
