Not Your Mother's Lipstick

Rainbow Party
A short time ago, Bethany Buck, editorial director of a Simon & Schuster imprint for teenagers, was watching Oprah and heard an O magazine editor discuss adolescent code words for sexual practices. One of the terms she heard was "Rainbow Party."

For those who may not yet have had the pleasure of attending one, a rainbow party involves people of both sexes; each female wears a different shade of lipstick, and each male does his best to leave the party with each color of lipstick imprinted on his wanger.

Ms. Buck suggested Rainbow Parties as a subject for a book to the writer Paul Riditis. Though the book includes two boys who have had oral sex with each other, the titular rainbow party never takes place; instead, the book has a gloomy message, emphasizing teenage neurosis related to image and adequacy.

Conservatives are shitting every color lipstick you can imagine over the existence of this book. Meanwhile, sociologists confirm that rainbow parties really do happen. The Bosh sings it with Judy Garland. "Somewhere, over the rainbow!" (By Scott Rose) - NYT
