John Sahag was born in Beirut in 1952. He was raised in Australia, where as a child he started sweeping the floor in a hair salon. At 18 he moved to Paris, where he learned to cut hair.
In 1985, he opened his first salon in New York. He invented the dry-cut method of styling and became wildly popular with celebrities. At his John Sahag Workshop on Madison Avenue, he created styles for Jennifer Aniston and Debra Messing. In his signature technique, he built texture by cutting hair in a series of uneven layers. One of his greatest creations was the boy cut he gave Demi Moore for the 1990 film "Ghost." The short, choppy style was copied everywhere that people were cool.
