David LaChapelle's Rize chronicles "krumping," a new youth dance movement in which dancers combine elements of break-dance, tap, modern dance and "clowning" to create movements so fast and frenetic that uninitiated observers might mistake them for epileptic seizures reports NewsWeek. Lil' C and Tommy the Clown, the inventors of krumping and clowning respectively, say the dance's appeal is manifold-it's fun, it keeps kids out of gangs, it's spiritual. "Thank goodness for David and this film," Lil' C tells NEWSWEEK. "[Krumping is] a savior for us, and everyone who’s gonna see it."
