Is Constantine C-list? |

It has come to my attention that a recent post that I made on this site has upset a lot of our readers. The post in question referred to American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis as a "c-list celebrity" and an "American Idol reject". The article in no way questioned his credibility as an artist, merely his celebrity status. Regardless of how talented Constantine is, the fact remains that he has yet to prove himself as a star. Let's get this straight, A-list does not equal talented. For example, Paris Hilton is an A-list celebrity. She has her own television show, causes paparazzi frenzies and is at the top of the invitation list for most Hollywood functions. But has she proven herself to be anything, but a Barbie doll that repeats the same tired catch phrase over and over again? Not really. On the other hand, Stephin Merritt is a very talented musician and the frontman for the band, The Magnetic Fields. He has a very devoted following of fans, but his records have never topped the Billboard charts, the paparazzi have never followed him around and Puff Daddy would never think to invite him to his infamous White Party. For all intents and purposes, Merritt is a d or e-list celebrity (if he would even make a list at all). It's just the facts. I never intended to imply that Constantine was not a talented musician, but the truth is that he is yet to become a real celebrity. If his dream is to one day top the Billboard charts, be followed around by prying photographers and star in his own TV show, more power to him. Until he does those things, however, he is still just an "American Idol" finalist, not a celebrity in his own right.
