Three hundred Star Wars fans have started a queue at New York's Ziegfeld cinema to watch Episode III. Fans from 22 US states and nine foreign countries, including Japan, Peru and Brazil, came together outside the city's Ziegfeld cinema on Saturday.
With 19 days to go before the film's first public showing, the around-the-clock line debuted to the beat of Star War tunes from a boombox swung by Bobafett, a bounty-hunter character in an outfit sprayed with silvery chrome reports Reuters.
"We all know what it's like to go through this insanity even though its temporary," said Steve Lorenzo, 39, a technical writer for a software company. "It's like a class or family reunion even though it's not."
Another group of fans has been lining up in LA since 2 April, while one fan began his wait in Seattle on 1 January.
The fans aren't just waiting for the film though, they're also raising lots of money for a children's charity. Sponsors agree to give money to a charity called Starlight Starbright for each hour that the people spend in the queue.
There were also queues before Episodes I and II in 1999 and 2001, then raising around $33,000 for the charity. Opening on May 19, "Episode III" completes a trilogy which is a prequel to the original three films. The series has generated nearly $3.4 billion in global box office and an estimated $9 billion in retail sales since the first film appeared in 1977
