None of us would be surprised if a politician were to let his grandmother be gang-raped in exchange for an electoral victory. However, even by those normal standards, Fernando Ferrer, a Democratic candidate for Mayor of New York City, stooped low when, two weeks ago, addressing a group of police sergeants, he said he did not believe the fatal police shooting of Amadou Diallo was a crime. The shit hit the fan after the remark was reported city-wide, Ferrer's chances of winning the race would seem to be slightly worse than Osama's.
