Britney Spears To Sing Major German Opera
The Metropolitan Opera has announced that in the 2005 - 2006 season, Britney Spears will appear as Salome in Richard Strauss' opera of that name. The role, one of the most exacting in the soprano literature, calls for the Princess Salome to perform 'The Dance of the Seven Veils' in front of her lusting stepfather. Essentially a strip-tease, that part of the role is often taken by a stand-in when the actual singer is too porky to perform it without causing waves of vomit. Most surprising of all, though, was the confidence voiced in Britney's vocal prowess by the Met's music director James Levine. "As soon as I heard her recording of 'Oops I Did It Again,' I knew she had what it takes to be a great Salome," he said. The Bosh wishes you a happy April Fools Day. (By Scott Rose) |
