Vancouver based- Flickr today announced via a company blog, that Internet Giant Yahoo Inc. now owns the online digital photo manager Flickr and its parent company, Ludicorp Research & Development bringing an end to weeks of rumors of the acquisition.

Flickr allows users to share photos with friends and family.

Flickr has more than 5.5 million photos with over 360,000 members.

Flickr will remain a standalone unit of Yahoo for several months, Yahoo is then expected to incorporate Flickr features within Yahoo Photos, and allow Yahoo account holders to use their current user IDs and passwords to access Flickr services. The deal also is expected to increase storage and the size of uploads for the users of Flickr's free and paid services.

In the Flickr blog, the entry in question goes, "We can finally confirm that Yahoo has made a definitive agreement to acquire Flickr and us, Ludicorp."
