Preppies Adapt Elements Of Urban Style
The Men's Fashion supplement of Sunday's New York Times is a must-read for anybody who gives a damn about the sartorial arts. One multi-page spread demonstrates how clothing for preppies has increased its sylistic borrowings from urban fashion. While the derivations are plain to discern, albeit ironed out with elegance, the prices of the clothes depicted, on stunning young models, are distinctly preppy. The first outfit shown, an all Burberry affair, consists of a $2,300 leather jacket, a $725 cashmere cardigan, a $310 cotton poplin shirt and $455 pants. On a separate page in the magazine is shown a Bottega Veneta belt made of boa constrictor skin for $940. If you aren't sold on its appearance, you might be swayed by the way the boa belt curls right up for easy storage. (By Scott Rose) |
