Gucci reeled when lead designer Tom Ford left the fold. In an attempt to never again be beholden to a single designer, the company for a time had teams of designers. In a move away from that, they had appointed Alessandra Facchinetti as women's wear designer, but after only two seasons of stable sales they wanted to put accessories wizard Frida Giannini over her in the company. Rather than report to Frida, Alessandra walked, we presume in shoes not by Gucci. Ms. Giannini's floral-patterned shoes and handbags, priced between $875 and $3,450, have been flying off the racks at Bergdorf Goodman. (By Scott Rose)
