What The Queen Really Thinks
The official royal spin on Queen Elizabeth's declining to attend the civil ceremony that will wed Prince Charles to Bowles is that her majesty is not snubbing the couple. However, as reported in the New York Times, the queen was upset at Charles' treatment of Diana and she is even more upset over his decades-long relationship with Bowles because of the harm she feels the affair has done to the monarchy. Queen Elizabeth skipped Charles' 50th birthday party because Bowles was there. Four years later, the prince tried to bring up the subject at dinner. According to a confidante of the prince, "The queen said she never wanted to talk about that wicked woman and wanted nothing to do with her." The first time Elizabeth agreed to be in the same place as Charles' lover - a party for the exiled King of Greece - she put out her hand, Bowles curtsied, and the queen moved on without saying a word. The Bosh opines that Queen Elizabeth is correct in saying she isn't snubbing the couple now, because she definitively snubbed them decades ago, and a queen's snub never goes out of effect.
