Sandra Dee dies at the age of 63 |

One of the first teen icons, Sandra Dee, died Sunday around 6 am at a Los Angeles hospital. Her death was a result of complications from kidney disease. According to her son, she had been hospitalized two weeks earlier and had come down with pneumonia. Dee was immortalized by playing the role of Gidget, a female surfer. Coincidentally, this year she was played by Kate Bosworth in Beyond the Sea, a film about her husband, Bobby Darin. Bosworth got her first big role in a surfing movie as well, Blue Crush. - By Kate Lanahan
