Judge Rodney S. Melville ruled on Friday that Michael Jackson's defense team can show evidence that the mother of his accuser had made previous abuse claims against her ex-husband and security guards. Defense attorneys want to use that evidence in claiming that the woman, who is called Jane Doe in court, pressured her son into lying in order to get money from the 46-year-old pop singer. Jackson's lawyers say they will show that "Jane Doe" accused J.C. Penney security guards of groping her after the family was detained at the department store on suspicion of shoplifting. She later sued over the incident and ultimately won $150,000 in a legal settlement.
The ruling concluded a busy week in trial during which the 12-person jury and eight-person alternate jury were selected reports Newsbug.com
The judge also announced that opening statements would be heard on Monday in the Santa Maria, California courthouse.
The 46-year-old Jackson is accused of molesting a 13-year-old boy at his Neverland Ranch.
