The Bosh's Best and Worst Dressed of the Oscars

Movies

Hilary Swank
This year's Academy Awards were all about sleek sophistication and old Hollywood glamour when it came to the wardrobe. Even Melissa and Joan Rivers struggled to find some flukes, eventually declaring that they had chosen no Worst Dressed. Without doubt, though, the dress that made the biggest impression was Hilary Swank's navy blue Guy Laroche. Opting for long sleeves and an exposed back, the Best Actress winner stood out among a sea of strapless looks. The jury is still out on the gown, with Swank topping many best and worst dressed looks.

Trends at the show included solid colors, trains, strapless tops and gold. Actresses who favored the train notably included Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera, Sophie Okonedo in Rochas, Salma Hayek in Prada and Charlize Theron in Dior. Gold wasn't just seen on Oscar this year. It was the color of choice for many an attendee like Oprah in Vera Wang, Gwyneth Paltrow in Stella McCartney, Penelope Cruz in Oscar de la Renta and Star Jones. Nearly every lady was seen in strapless and solid colors.

Reality Show Upchuck

Gossip

Even as busy tongues wag over whether "American Idol" co-hosts Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell have started a love affair after years of mutual antipathy, Idol judge Randy Jackson, who often tells contestants they are fat, is giving the gruesome details about his gastric bypass surgery. "If you don't chew your food well enough, you throw it up. It's a last-ditch option, really, because of the complications," he says. And we thought it was a last ditch option because they have to cut into your abdomen and staple your innards! (By Scott Rose)

Mariah Carey On The Rocks

Gossip

In Touch has a detailed report on how the stars diet. Victoria's Secret model Gisele Buendchen keeps herself looking good eating liver burgers while Avril Lavigne, rebounding from an all junk food all the time year is sticking to avocados, tomatoes, tuna, almonds and water. Jennifer Love Hewitt eats her potatoes before her meat in the belief that it allows her body to digest the food better. Mariah Carey takes the cake among these dieters; when she wants a snack, she tricks her taste buds into thinking she's eating by sucking on ice cubes. The Bosh wonders if that had anything to do with her divorce from Tommy. (By Scott Rose)

Insanity In Rome

Books

Pope John Paul II never has had a hard time getting a lucrative book deal; his latest, published first in Polish and coming in a language nearer to yours soon, is called "Memory and Identity." Advance word has it that in the book, Nazism and other forms of totalitarianism are linked to various social ills among which the pope allows to be included homosexuality. It was back in 1986 that Vatican strongman Cardinal Jeseph Ratzinger spelled out John Paul II's attitude towards gays, saying that homosexuality is an "intrinsic moral evil" which should be considered an "objective disorder." Gay leaders could not be reached for comment on whether talking about an immaculate conception should be considered an "objective disorder," but Harvey Fierstein would probably have something funny to say to his holiness. Let gossip cure your case of "the Mondays"

Gossip

Jen Schefft will break some hearts tonight
It's mid-afternoon post-Oscars and it's relatively safe to assume you've had enough award show gossip to last you until next February. That's where the Bosh comes in - offering you (relatively) Oscar-free gossip to get your Monday started on the right track. Here we go.

Even if you'll be feeling lonely and cold, it's nice to know that at least one person will be snuggled together with her love bird this evening, right? Tonight at 8 pm, ABC will air the season finale of "The Bachelorette", a show that usually brings with it pledges of eternal love that are broken within 6 months. Don't be surprised if tonight's pledge is broken before the the Tivo finishes taping, though.

More dish after the jump.

Jerry Springer musical threatened by Christian group

Culture

Jerry Springer
There goes trash talk show host, Jerry Springer's chance at becoming at Broadway star. The musical based on his show, "Jerry Springer - The Opera", may be cancelled after an Evangelical Christian group expressed severe distaste for it. The musical had played in England and was quite successful until it ran on the BBC. The network received more than 40,000 complaints before the show even aired. This may have been how the production's current opposition, the Wales-based Christian Voice, found out about it. The criticism comes from the play's depiction of abortion, homosexuality and Jesus in a diaper. It had been announced last April that the production would run on Broadway in the fall. The future of "Jerry Springer - The Opera" is now in doubt, however, as no official date has been set for the US debut. A British tour will continue as scheduled, though. Phew.
