Sunday night's episode of the Simpson's featured the little town of Springfield legalizing gay marriage to improve tourism, Homer Simpson becoming an ordained minister via the Internet to marry gay couples for money and Marge's sister Patty coming out of the closet, presenting her girlfriend and their intention to marry. This was not the first episode of the Simpsons to have gay content; Waylon Smithers vacations at men's singles resorts and collects Malibu Stacy dolls. However, it came at a time when cartoons from Buster to Spongebob Squarepants have been taking on the religious bigots, and the religious bigots return the favor by giving cartoonish reasoning to justify their values of bigotry.
