ONE HOT ERECTION
|
Frank Gehry's new concert hall in Los Angeles, praised by everyone who's used the inside, is annoying some on the outside; it seems that its shimmering facade of stainless steel throws glare into motorists' eyes, and causes temperatures on nearby sidewalks to rise as high as 138 degrees. A grey mesh fabric has already been placed over one section, and the LA County Board of Supervisors is deciding whether to sandblast the entire surface. It just goes to prove that knowing how to cool something down is as important as getting it up in the first place. (BY SCOTT ROSE) |
